Learn to Heal: Faith, Mindset, and the Science of Restoration

Learn to Heal

Health is the state of physical, mental, and emotional well-being in which the body functions in balance and harmony. It involves maintaining internal stability, known in biology as Homeostasis, while supporting the body’s natural ability to repair and renew itself. True health is not simply the absence of disease but the presence of vitality, resilience, and the ability to live life with strength, clarity, and purpose.

Introduction

In our previous blog, we explored the idea of relevance—a worthy pursuit in today’s rapidly changing world.

But relevance alone is not enough.

To live well and lead well, we must also learn to heal.

Healing—whether physical, emotional, or spiritual—is a vital part of the journey of Becoming Maverick. My perspective in this blog may challenge some common assumptions, but I invite you to read it thoughtfully, even devotionally.

Transformation Begins in the Mind

As I approach this topic, I do so as someone who reads the Bible and believes in God.

One of the most powerful principles in Scripture is found in Romans 12, the principle of transformation.

Romans 12:2 reminds us:

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

Transformation begins with renewing the mind.

But what does that mean in today’s age of information?

Mind renewal is not passive.
It is an educational process.

It requires curiosity, learning, reflection, and growth.

Faith and Science Are Not Opposites

When we explore healing, we cannot ignore the basics of biology.

Some people ask:

What does science have to do with healing?

In truth, science simply studies what God created.

If God designed the universe, then He also designed the biological processes that allow our bodies to heal.

Healing, at its core, is a biological process.

When a biological being is injured—physically or emotionally—the body must restore balance.

The Bible acknowledges this beautifully:

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”
Psalm 147:3

Faith and science do not compete.
They complement each other.

The Environment of Healing

For healing to occur, the body needs the right environment.

And one of the most important environments is the mind.

Our thoughts, emotions, and stress levels influence a cascade of biological signals inside the body.

Hormones shift.
Chemicals are released.
Systems activate.

These processes help restore the body to Homeostasis—the state of internal balance necessary for life.

This is why Scripture advises:

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
— Proverbs 4:23

Our inner world shapes our physical reality more than we often realize.

A Remarkable Process: Autophagy

Modern science continues to uncover the incredible ways the body repairs itself.

One fascinating process is Autophagy.

Autophagy is the body’s natural cellular recycling system.

It removes damaged cells and components, allowing new, healthier cells to regenerate. In many ways, it is the body’s built-in renewal mechanism.

To me, this process reflects the profound wisdom embedded in creation.

The human body is not random.
It is designed for restoration.

Is Healing in Church Real?

Many people ask whether healing in church is real.

My answer is simple: yes.

But healing is rarely about a single dramatic moment.

Often it is about creating the right environment for the body to do what it was designed to do.

Faith, mindset, knowledge, and lifestyle all contribute to that environment.

The principle of transformation described in Romans reminds us that renewal is active, not passive.

We are participants in our healing journey.

Knowledge Is Part of the Healing Journey

If there is something about your body you are not happy with, learn about it.

Understanding how your body works can dramatically improve your quality of life—and sometimes even extend it.

The Bible also speaks about the importance of knowledge:

“My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.”
Hosea 4:6

Healthy living is not merely about appearance.

It is about honoring the design of the body God gave us.

The more we learn about that design, the more we appreciate the wisdom behind it.

Healing Is Part of Becoming Maverick

The journey of Becoming Maverick is not only about ambition, success, or leadership.

It is also about wholeness.

Healing—physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually—allows us to live with greater clarity, strength, and purpose.

When we pursue knowledge, embrace wisdom, and care for our bodies, we align ourselves with the remarkable systems God placed within us.

Conclusion

This blog only scratches the surface of the fascinating relationship between faith, biology, and healing.

Yet the invitation is simple:

Learn.

Observe.

Explore.

The more we understand the human body, the more we marvel at the wisdom embedded in its design.

Your pursuit of knowledge is not only personal—it contributes to a healthier and more informed community.

As you continue your journey of Becoming Maverick, may you grow in wisdom, deepen your understanding, and care well for the incredible vessel that is your body.

Until the next exploration—
keep learning, keep growing, and keep venturing into the uncharted territories of knowledge.
