Faith, Hope and Love

Devotion: a committed, consistent posture of dedication expressed through love, loyalty, and intentional daily action toward a person, purpose, or belief.

The Three Forces That Move a Maverick

A devotional for The Everyday Mavericks

There is a line in the Bible that quietly summarises a life well lived:

“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”
1 Corinthians 13:13

For the Mavericks that were present at my wedding, you will remember that I used this love chapter (1 Corinthians 13) as my wedding vows. It was not just a promise to my spouse, but a guiding principle I have carried into every area of life—leadership, friendship, and personal growth.

This is not just poetry. It is a sequence. A progression. A way forward.

Faith — Built on Foundations

Our recent reflection explored the idea that faith grows from foundations, not from blind belief. Scripture supports this beautifully:

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
Hebrews 11:1

Faith is the confidence to move forward based on what you have come to trust.

Mavericks live this daily:

  • starting before certainty
  • stepping before clarity
  • acting before the full map appears

Faith says: There is enough evidence to take the next step.

Hope — The Bridge Through Uncertainty

Hope carries us when the evidence is still forming. Scripture describes hope as endurance and forward movement:

“We also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.”
Romans 5:3–4

And again:

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him.”
Romans 15:13

Hope is not denial.
Hope is persistence.

Hope keeps you moving while the future is still unfolding.

Faith grows from evidence.
Hope sustains the journey while evidence gathers.

But neither tells us how to treat people along the way.

Love — The Multiplier of Impact

This is where the passage reaches its climax.

“Above all these, put on love, which binds everything together in perfect unity.”
Colossians 3:14

Love determines the atmosphere of your journey.

And Scripture makes love deeply practical:

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.”
1 Corinthians 13:4

Love is not a feeling first.
Love is a choice expressed in action.

Faith may start the journey.
Hope may sustain the journey.
But love determines the legacy of the journey.

This is why love is the greatest.

The Maverick Practice — Add Love Intentionally

Look for opportunities to add love on purpose:

  • Patience under pressure
  • Kindness in disagreement
  • Generosity in scarcity
  • Humility in success

Small acts of love compound faster than grand plans.

And over time, they shape the culture around you.

A Quiet Invitation

Today, carry all three.

Take one step of faith.
Hold on to one thread of hope.
Look for one opportunity to add love intentionally.

One moment is enough to begin.

Moving Forward

Live curiously.
Lead courageously.
Life is worth living.

The Everyday Mavericks keep moving forward with intention.

Shalom.
